What is pickleball?
Think Tennis on a badminton court with a wiffle ball. It's a paddle sport that is easy to learn and enjoy for all ages and skill levels.
Pickleball can be played both indoors or outdoors, as singles or doubles, and easy to play almost anywhere.
A brief history lesson...
Pickleball began one weekend in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Joel Pritchard, congressman from Washington State and Bill Bell, successful businessman first created the game when looking for an activity for their families to enjoy.
They worked with what they could find and used an old badminton net, paired it with ping pong paddles and a perforated plastic ball. They first started volleying over the net at badminton height, but soon realized that ball bounced well on asphalt, so they lowered the net to 36 inches. The following weekend, Barney McCallum was introduced to the game at Pritchard's home and soon the three men began establishing rules and created the fun family sport we now know as pickleball!
Throughout the years, pickleball has grown in popularity and has even become quite competitive with players and tournaments held across the US nation and the world. This sport continues to evolve and we hope will bring smiles and enjoyment to many more and for years to come.
