Founding Story: How Dink Started
Dink was founded in September, 2019 with a focus on the mass market. At first, we started out just like 99% of the pickleball industry - importing paddles from China. We quickly realized this was a bad idea. If there were thousands of brands doing the same thing, how could we ever differentiate ourselves? (This is still the case, btw)
We decided to bring production in house in California and figure out how to make paddles on our own. Those first few batches of paddles were brutally bad. We didn't know if our paddles would be durable or performant - we hated it. However, we continued to persevere and focus on improving the product.
On a lark, we decided to list “Custom Pickleball Paddles” on our website for Christmas of 2019. We made one sale - to a family of 12. We immediately knew custom paddles needed to be our focus.
Slowly but surely, we improved our paddles and processes over time, so that we can make really high quality paddles in a matter of minutes. Over the 5+ years, we've focused almost exclusively on custom and personalizable pickleball paddles on a quick turnaround.
We've been fortunate enough to sell tens of thousands of paddles and work with global brands like T-Mobile, Pepsi, Lululemon, and many more.
